The “Wildly Successful” mini-series continues with another organization that can help you move your business or start a new one in Hastings County.
In this episode, we're featuring the Municipality of Marmora and Lake’s Community Ambassadors Program, which matches seasoned locals with newcomers to answer their questions about living, working, and running a business in Marmora. Offering their perspectives are Eric Daoust, a municipal councillor and an entrepreneur, and Anne MacNeill, a member of Marmora and Lake's Economic Development Advisory Committee and one of the program’s ambassadors. They explain how the program works, who the ambassadors are, and why Eric and Anne personally wish this program had existed sooner.
Listen/watch below, or read on for a few highlights.
How the Community Ambassador Program Works
The Community Ambassadors Program in Marmora and Lake is all about helping newcomers feel at home. It’s run by volunteers who help answer questions about everything from arts and local schools to starting a business and getting involved in the community. Eric explains that newcomers just need to fill out a simple form on the town’s website. From there, they get matched with a local ambassador who can chat or meet up for coffee to share tips and advice. The goal is to give newcomers a friendly face to turn to when they have questions.
Who are the Ambassadors?
The ambassadors are a diverse group of locals eager to share what they know about life in Marmora and Lake. Some have been a part of the community for years, while others are relatively new. This mix of perspectives is what makes the program so beneficial. They bring their own experiences—everything from handling business challenges to adjusting to rural life—to the table. By offering honest insights, they help newcomers navigate both the lifestyle and practical aspects of living in the area.
A New Program That’s Really Helping People
The Community Ambassador Program was launched a year ago and came out of the Economic Development Advisory Committee wanting to create something that could really help people. Both Eric and Anne wish this program had been around when they first moved to Marmora and Lake. Anne faced a tough time adjusting until she got involved with the local library. Eric had to juggle moving his business and life to a new place. They know how real, honest advice from someone who’s been there can make all the difference.
