May 20, 2025

Belleville, ON – Hastings County is pleased to announce that a collective bargaining settlement has been reached with the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) Local 496. The agreement, covering the period from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2027, is now ratified by both parties.

“This settlement reflects a balanced and respectful negotiation process,” said Bob Mullin, Warden of Hastings County. “It ensures continued stability in County operations, recognizes the important contributions of our employees, and maintains long-term fiscal responsibility for our residents.”

Agreement Highlights:

•    Wage Increases: 4% annually over three years.
•    A phased cost-sharing of long-term disability (LTD) premiums, shifting from 100% employee-paid to a 50/50 split by 2027.

The agreement was negotiated over multiple dates in March and April, with conciliation support on April 28 and May 13, 2025.

“This outcome is a testament to the professionalism and commitment of all involved,” added Warden Mullin. “We thank OPSEU Local 496 and the County’s bargaining team for their hard work and dedication to reaching a fair agreement.”
