After living and working in the Toronto area, the natural beauty of Hastings County inspired Janice Swiercz to start the next chapter of her life and business here.
Tell us about yourself.
I’m a lover of nature and small business. I love to travel locally and I love Ontario! I have 12 years of experience in the environmental consulting and laboratory fields. I have worked with many levels of government and industry dealing with soil and water issues, indoor air quality and designated substances including asbestos and lead as well as mold. I made a change in 2012 and decided to pursue the avenue of wellness including skin care and energy healing. I have worked for years in the GTA before deciding to relocate. I currently operate a skin care treatment and mini spa out of my home as well as a short term vacation rental to showcase Tweed. I recently became the President of the Tweed and Area Chamber of Commerce volunteer organization. It’s been an amazing experience getting to know local businesses and owners and creating this community network along with my amazing team members.
What made you decide to move to Hastings County?
After I decided I wanted to live the next chapter of my life elsewhere in 2015, I began a long search to find land and/or a place to live. At the time, Hastings county’s natural beauty really spoke to me. The area also provided the value I needed to start my next chapter in life and business. I also wanted to be closer to explore Eastern Ontario and Quebec. Tweed, in Hastings County, seemed like the perfect home base.
Tell us about the steps you had to take to start your life in Hastings County?
I had decided to sell my current residence and live with family before finding the right opportunity for myself and my business. This took close to three years. I found land in 2017 and spent a year planning on building a home, only to see the costs growing at an astounding pace. By 2019 I decided I needed to find a home that was established, and after a very long search (my realestate agent will confirm 🙂 and seeing almost everything available on the market, from Napanee to Enterprise to Centreville to Actinolite, Stirling, Madoc and even including Belleville, I landed in the centre of Tweed.
What is your favourite thing about Hastings County so far?
Can I have two favourites? Finding little gems of buisnesses in all these smaller towns and hamlets and meeting the people who run them. I do love local travel and will travel for really amazing baked goods, unique stores, services and outdoor markets. The natural beauty is also undeniably one of my favourite things about living here.

The focus of my buisness is skin care treatments using non-toxic and vegan products made in Canada. Treatments are for those who are looking for daily care routines, as well as those who want to pamper themselves or to treat someone to a service through gift certificates. I have also made available a list of targeted relaxation or min-spa treatments and energy healing options. My original business start date was March 2020 and so, I can’t tell you enough of how much of a struggle it has been trying to navigate the operating of my business during the last two years. I often hear from people that they had no idea what I offer was available in the area. I’m happy to let residents know that I’m pleased to be the experienced skin care specialist that they might be looking for in bigger cities, but I’m available right here in Tweed. I am more than happy to assist people with skin care issues whether they be big or small. I also run a short-term vacation rental out of my home, to share the lovely area of Tweed with others.
