7 Local Shops for Father’s Day Gift Ideas

You may not be able to celebrate Father’s Day as usual with your dad this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still show him some love. Many shops across Hastings County are offering online and phone sales, and some will even deliver. From craft beer and cider, to paintings and woodwork, to fishing and hunting gear, here are seven local options.

7/62 Craft Brewers

The lockdown has been tough for almost all small businesses in the area, and that’s especially true for new ones like 7/62 Craft Brewers, a craft brewery that just opened in the fall in Madoc. Their mission from day one has been to brew “Simply Good Beer”, and they’ve done that with four core beers — Best Bitter, Dark Red, The Little Irish, and Canadian Ale — and special releases like Isolation IPA, which is a crisp, dry, and coppery English IPA. Call in your order to 613-473-5377 or direct message it on Facebook. Free local delivery is available seven days a week.

Kings Mill Cider

If your dad is more of a hard cider fan, send him some of the award-winning brews perfected by Kees Morsink and Margaret Van Helvoort at Kings Mill Cider. Based in the rolling hills of Stirling, they use only the finest and freshest hand-picked Ontario apples to come up with a wide range of concoctions, from bone dry to fruity. Find them all in the online shop and then have them delivered right to your dad’s door for free wherever he is in Ontario.  Their tasting room is now open and new this year is their wood-fired pizzas!

Maybe your dad is in need of something new to look at inside, like a painting or other work of art. This Maynooth art gallery features a solid roster of local artists working in a variety of mediums, including oil paint and glass. The gallery is closed to visitors, but the owners are still there Monday to Friday, 11 am to 3 pm, to answer any questions and fill orders. They are also taking photos of what’s available in the gallery and posting them to Facebook. You can pay using e-transfer, and shipment is via Canada Post.

The Bancroft shop’s online store includes geological tools and accessories, rock tumblers and supplies, books and card decks, new age products, and, of course, a wide range of crystals, rocks, and minerals. You can also purchase tickets to upcoming mineral-collecting field trips in Bancroft, the mineral capital of Canada.

Madawaska Kanu Centre

The lockdown will be lifted at some point, and when that happens, your dad may seriously need an outdoor adventure. If that sounds like him, a paddling course or white-water rafting trip may do the trick. Madawaska Kanu Centre is one of the best in Ontario and has been run by three generations of the same family. It was also the first white-water school in the world. They have gift cards for future trips available by phone and online.
