5 Local Bakeries You’ve Got to Try

Table of Contents

Hastings Prince Edward region moved into the Green – Prevent zone as of 12:01 am on Wednesday, February 10. The COVID-19 response framework offers information about the public health and workplace safety measures for each zone under the colour-coded response framework. Stay at Home Orders are still in place for residents of some regions of Ontario and Quebec. The content of this blog post is for locals’ inspiration at this time. If you live in one of the other regions, we look forward to welcoming you back when the restrictions are lifted. In the meantime, stay safe.

There are few things I love more than fresh baked goods.  The smell of sweetness in the air from a bakery is enough to drive you crazy, but in a good way.  I am always on the lookout for new pastries to try and the local bakeries in Hastings do not disappoint.

For full disclosure, I jumped at the chance at writing this article because it gave me and my family a perfect excuse to sample some of the area’s best bakery treats.

Before heading out to any local bakery right now I recommend you check their site to find out what the best way is to pick up some of their goodies.  Because of Covid and restrictions that are often changing, you’ll want to find out if you need to pre-order, or whether you can walk in to purchase their sweet treats.

The Hidden Goldmine Bakery in Madoc (pictured) is a family-run business that gives you that small-town country feels the second you walk in the door.  Stocked with tarts, muffins, cookies, pies, cakes, scones, and more there is no shortage of what you can enjoy there. We enjoyed their coconut raspberry tarts and they were amazing.  They also sell giftware in their store and some locally sourced products, like popcorn, preserves, and honey. You can also order online for pickup which is definitely a bonus during Covid.  To do this just head on over to their website.

In Stirling, a brand-new bakery has opened up called Raindrop’s Cupcakery and Puppy Bakery (pictured).  They specialize in cupcakes and cakes but also have other things like brittle and squares.  However, this bakery has a unique feature and that is that they sell pupcakes for your dog.  It’s a great place to go to pick up a treat not only for yourself but for your furry friend.  They also offer gluten-free upon request so be sure to inquire.  We are definitely fans of their carrot cake cupcakes.  You can find all their information on their Facebook page.

A little further north in Maynooth you’ll find Sun Run Café and Bakery (pictured).  This place not only has baked goods, but also café food like soups and sandwiches.  Sun Run Café and Bakery recently opened under new management and they pride themselves on making everything fresh and from scratch.  You’ll want to stop in and enjoy a cupcake, scone, or muffin!  Their Facebook page has all the information you need before you go.

Also in Maynooth is Memories Bakery and Tea Room.  If you are looking for some baked goods, or even some lunch, but you want to enjoy your food in a cute, Victorian atmosphere, this is the place to go. You can even enjoy some delicious pizza at the tea room which they are well known for. Check out their hours on their Facebook page so that you don’t miss when they are open.

Located in Riverside Park down in Bancroft you’ll find Wattle and Daub Café with quite an interesting purpose.  This unique and rustic spot is owned and operated by Bancroft Community Transit which is a non-profit organization that provides transportation service for those in need for things like medical appointments, or before and after school programs for youth.  This transportation is provided by volunteers.  The purchases you make at Wattle and Daub Café provides income to help financially support the transportation service.  Why not go grab a piece of cake (see one of their amazing cakes pictured below) while also supporting a good cause.  You can find more information on their Facebook page.

It doesn’t matter the occasion, heading to a local bakery near you is sure to lift your spirits and please your taste buds.  Whether you prefer cookies, tarts, or scones, you are bound to find something that you will enjoy.  A trip to a local bakery takes an ordinary afternoon and turns it around into something exciting and delicious.
